One of the unexpected pleasures of staying at Adorably Rustic Cabin is realizing that you don't always have to go looking for wildlife.
Sometimes the better strategy is to sit down and let it come to you.
The covered deck overlooks the meadow and catch-and-release pond, creating a natural viewing area for whatever happens to be moving through Greer that day.
Elk and deer regularly travel through the area. Great blue herons stalk the shoreline. Raptors circle overhead. Trout break the surface of the pond.
And then there is the osprey.
We've watched — and captured on video — an osprey circle above the pond before diving for breakfast. It's the kind of moment that stops the conversation on the deck because everyone suddenly realizes they have a front-row seat.
No wildlife sighting is guaranteed, of course. That's part of what makes it interesting.
Some mornings are quiet.
Others give you something you'll talk about long after the trip.
The best advice is simple: bring your coffee, keep your eyes on the meadow and don't be in too much of a hurry.
Around here, the deck is more than outdoor seating.
It's one of the best places to see what Greer decides to show you that day.
